On 4 December 2025, the EU Space Surveillance and Tracking (EU SST) took part in EUSPA’s User Consultation Platform (UCP), held in Prague and online. Participants at the UCP’s SST session gained insights from real cases shared by current EU SST users. The session also featured an expert panel, offering perspectives on topics relevant to users.
During the session, introduced by Beatriz Gallardo, SST User Engagement Manager at EUSPA, Laura Gandyra from the European Commission and Dr. Pascal Faucher, Chair of EU SST, participants learned how EU SST services are used across different user communities, with presenters highlighting operational use cases, associated benefits, and current limitations. Óscar Rodríguez (Okapi: Orbits) and Guillaume Vazeille (EnduroSat) described their experience as users of the EU SST Collision Avoidance service, while Marta Fernández (EUROCONTROL) shared her perspective as a user of the Re-entry Analysis service from the aviation sector.
User needs identified included the use of the EU SST Portal as a hub for centralised SST information, interoperable APIs, comprehensive documentation and timely, easily retrievable information to manage increasing space traffic and protect orbital assets. The relevance of adapting SST services to the specific operational requirements of an increasingly structured aviation sector, particularly for managing uncontrolled re‑entries, was also emphasised.
The session continued with a panel discussion on SST information sharing moderated by Cristina Pérez, from the EU SST Partnership. Speakers from four organisations – Pier Luigi Righetti (EUMETSAT), Carlos González (Hisdesat), David Mostaza (Hispasat), and Iván Miralles (Spaceopal) stressed that better coordination, faster reaction times and higher levels of automation are needed, while ensuring that information sharing remains balanced with security considerations and follows a clear “need‑to‑know” approach.
As next steps, EU SST will build on the feedback gathered at the UCP to further tailor SST services to user communities and to support safer and more sustainable space operations. The conclusions of the user consultation were presented the next day at the UCP Plenary, where it was highlighted that the growing number of space actors and satellites in orbit require stronger coordination to maintain space safety.
